American’s New Non-Stop Chicago O’Hare from AVP Begins Today (June 7, 2018)

Avoca, PA (June 7, 2018) – The Bi-County Airport Board and Team AVP are pleased to announce American Airlines’ new service from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) begins today (June 7, 2018).

American will begin offering twice daily service between AVP and Chicago O’Hare beginning today.  All flights to/from Chicago will be operated with 50-seat Embraer Regional Jet 145 aircraft.  The ORD flights will depart AVP at 7:59 AM and 3:17 PM daily.  The ORD flights will arrive at AVP at 2:47 PM and 9:11 PM daily.

Carl Beardsley, AVP Executive Director, said, “We are very pleased to see American Airlines continuing to upgrade its services in Northeast Pennsylvania by adding more flights and seats in the market for our area business and leisure air travelers.” Beardsley added, “American’s two daily Chicago flights will complement the two existing United daily flights to Chicago.”

“We are extremely pleased that American continues to expand their services in our market,” said Patrick O’Malley, Lackawanna County Commissioner and Chairman of the Bi-County Airport Board. “We are confident that more passengers will continue to utilize AVP for their air travel needs,” added Chairman O’Malley.

American has already added a 4th daily flight to Charlotte in April, and have added a 4th daily flight to Philadelphia a few days ago.  All flights to/from Charlotte will be operated with 76-seat Canadair Regional Jet 900 aircraft (3 daily flights) and 63-seat Canadair Regional Jet 700 aircraft (1 daily flight). All flights to/from Philadelphia will be operated with 50-seat Embraer Regional Jet 145 aircraft.

With this expansion, American will add over 1,200 daily arrivals and departures at AVP through the summer.  Beardsley commented, “That’s an additional 64,000+ seats in our market!  We expect American to continue the added service into the future.”
